The Saga Continues.........

In what has developed into a blizzard of disinformation, half truths, confusion, and outright lies, the flight attendant sector of the s-UA afa-CWA, in the throes of its demise as anything remotely resembling an entity that ANYONE takes very seriously at this point, has crossed the line from self-obsessed delusion and lapsed into wretched self parody.

Having capitalized yet again on propaganda, lies, deceit and bullying of the work force at s-UAL to win a representation vote at the merged Continental/United Airlines in 2011, afa-CWA union management has thrashed and flailed about with the desperate urgency of a drowning man, grasping at straws and making excuses for their consistently directionless and inept handling of contract negotiations and “representation” at EVERY airline unfortunate enough to have been conned by them.

S-UA MEC President Davidowitch has personally cost s-UAL flight attendants millions of dollars in lost potential income, and he continues to deny s-UAL the dignity of personal choice for no other reason than his continued employment at the MEC or potentially the International level.  His leadership does nothing but continue to harm the afa-CWA which itself is doing nothing for flight attendants’ long term job security at s-UAL. He, and his contemporaries at the s-UA MEC continue to vociferously fight changes to the constitution and bylaws that would allow WORKING flight attendants the ability to vote on officers AT EVERY LEVEL of the afa-CWA flight attendant sector, while members at our sister unions, such as APFA, vote on every officer who wishes to be of service, thereby ensuring officers are held accountable for their actions.  Those who fail to perform must answer to a voting rank and file, whereas the afa-CWA protects the arrogance and incompetence of its “leaders” by restricting the vote to the lowest levels of governance where local council presidents, pursuing personal political agendas and career aspirations of their own, do nothing but parrot the line dictated by union management.

The latest decision in denying a crossover  stripped s-UAL attendants of the choice to take control of their own future, free from the coercion, intimidation and harassment of the afa-CWA, UAL MEC and their groveling fawners, is another in a long line of actions designed to keep s-UAL attendants in ignorance and misery.

In what is shaping up to be the most critical election cycle in recent memory, flight attendants at EVERY carrier “represented” by the afa-CWA should make the most of this opportunity to effect REAL change within the organization that claims to represent their best interests but which has time and again put its business interests ahead of all else.  WORKING flight attendants have listened to forty years of excuse-making, endured needlessly protracted contract negotiations that have consistently delivered far less than what was promised, and are now witnessing the implosion of the afa-CWA sector’s largest MEC (UAL) as it stumbles blindly and without direction resulting in a loss of employment for  hundreds of s-UAL attendants.  Despite pathetic assertions to the contrary, this is SOLELY the responsibility of the UAL MEC and its president Greg Davidowitch – to blame the company or s-CO MEC or any other entity is cowardly and inane, but right in the afa-CWA flight attendant wheelhouse.

WORKING flight attendants have allowed too many opportunities for change to slip through their fingers.  It is long past time to push back against the corruption and bullying that has allowed an organization only remotely concerned with WORKING flight attendants’ best interests to run roughshod over a profession that other labor unions have managed to negotiate into well paying careers.  The afa-CWA’s reign of incompetence must come to an end by showing its current leadership to the door.
